December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month

As Rotarians, we know that each month highlights one of the core areas that define our service and our impact. December focuses on Disease Prevention and Treatment—an area of focus that Rotary International is perhaps best known for worldwide, especially beyond our own Rotary circles.
For decades, the global eradication of polio has been Rotary International’s signature humanitarian effort. Since the early 1980s, Rotarians around the world have committed their time, resources, advocacy, and passion to this cause. Thanks to that unwavering dedication, the world is closer than ever to ending polio once and for all. Yet the work is not finished. Until the last child is protected, we will not—and cannot—set this torch down. That determination is part of who we are as Rotarians.
Disease prevention and treatment is one of Rotary Foundation’s Areas of Focus for a very good reason. Preventable diseases continue to limit the health, opportunity, and future of individuals, families, and entire communities. When health is compromised, education suffers, economic development is slowed, and quality of life is diminished. Addressing disease is not just about treatment—it’s about prevention, education, access, and sustainability.
This area of focus is also deeply interconnected with other Rotary priorities such as Clean Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health, and Basic Education and Literacy. Healthy communities are stronger communities, and progress in one area helps fuel progress in them all.
As a Rotarian, you are part of a global network committed to creating lasting change. Your service, your generosity, and your advocacy matter. You are not just a volunteer—you are a Difference Maker. Together, we continue to take action, improve lives, and move the world closer to a healthier, more hopeful future.
