Join the members of the Rotary Club of Edmonton West for our bi-weekly luncheon meeting at the Chateau Louis Conference Centre, 11420 - 117 Street NW, Edmonton. The menu includes a soup and sandwich lunch, with baked squares and fruit for dessert. The cost is $25 per person. Longtime Downtown Rotarian Brent Abbott will be our guest speaker. He will give us an update on our neighbour here on Kingsway Avenue, the Alberta Aviation Museum. The Royal Canadian Air Force built the aircraft hangar that houses the museum during the Second World War for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. It is the only double-long, double-wide hangar of its type left. The BCATP gathered men and women from the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to train pilots, navigators, and other aircrew to support the Allied war effort. The Alberta Aviation Museum Association incorporated in 1980 as a group of aviation and history enthusiasts and occupied temporary facilities at the Edmonton Municipal Airport through the 1980s. In 1990 the Association partnered with a diverse group of other like-minded aviation groups, under the leadership of the Edmonton Aviation Heritage Society, who approached the City of Edmonton about leasing the Hangar on Kingsway. The tireless efforts of the Edmonton Aviation Heritage Society’s volunteers paid off, and they cleaned up the old hangar and moved into their permanent home in 1991. Over the years, thousands of dedicated volunteers have worked on an iconic collection of more than 30 aircraft, including many ground-up restorations. With the closure of the airport, the museum moved into a new phase, becoming the historic cornerstone of the new Blatchford community. In 2019, the Society signed a new 25-year lease with the City of Edmonton, and are embarking on a major revitalization to better tell Edmonton’s exciting flying history to a whole new generation. |

We still have quite a few volunteer spots available for our upcoming shift at the Food Bank, and we’d love to have you join us. This is a great opportunity to give back to our community. The Food Bank supports thousands of individuals and families in Edmonton every month, and volunteers play a vital role in sorting and preparing food hampers for those in need. Volunteering is not only meaningful, but also a chance to:

Chrysalis is an Alberta Society that provides personilized programs and services to individuals with developmental disabilities. The building has been around since the 1960's and could do with some TLC. Al Sanderson has gathered some enthusiastic volunteers to paint a 100 foot hallway. When: Saturday May 9 They are supplying the paint and most of what we need. Low stepladders would be helpful, along with any painting supplies you have. Cheers. Annie |

We’ve been booked for a Registered Group Planting Program with the City of Edmonton’s Root for Trees initiative! Volunteers will be planting native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers in naturalized areas to help improve biodiversity, enhance environmental quality, and restore green spaces to a more natural state. Since we’ll be working outdoors, please dress appropriately for the weather. The planting area may include thistles, sticks, or debris, so we recommend wearing layers, long pants, and a hat. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes (such as runners) are required. Please also remember to bring:
All tools and materials—including shovels, gloves, and plants—will be provided by the Root for Trees team. We’re looking forward to a rewarding day of giving back and helping our environment thrive. Date: 18-July-2026
