Serving a Thanksgiving meal with Boyle Street
Serving a Thanksgiving meal with Boyle Street Oct. 11, 2026
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Alberta Aviation Museum

Thank you to the members who have signed up. There are still volunteer spots available!

A new venue has been found...it will be at the  Alberta Aviation Museum in the hanger.

Date: Sunday October 11
Time: Set up is at 9:00 am, Meal service is at 11:30 am

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and once again our club has the opportunity to give back to our community by serving Thanksgiving dinner to clients of Boyle Street Community Services.

For many years, our Rotary Club has partnered with Boyle Street for their Thanksgiving meal. It’s become one of our favourite hands-on volunteer opportunities — and for good reason!

We help serve a warm Thanksgiving dinner to people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional holiday meal. But it’s about much more than the food. It’s about showing kindness, offering a friendly smile, and making people feel welcome and valued. A simple meal shared with others can make a real difference.

We’ll be helping with serving the meal, welcoming guests, and whatever else is needed to make the afternoon run smoothly.

If you’re able to join us, please sign up below. It’s a wonderful way to put Service Above Self into action and continue a tradition that our club has proudly supported for many years.

Cheers,

Anne

Rotary Edmonton West Bi-weekly Luncheon Meeting
Rotary Edmonton West Bi-weekly Luncheon Meeting Oct. 19, 2026
12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Chateau Louis Conference Centre

Join the members of the Rotary Club of Edmonton West for our bi-weekly luncheon meeting at the Chateau Louis Conference Centre, 11420 - 117 Street NW, Edmonton. The menu includes a soup and sandwich lunch with baked squares and fruit for dessert. The cost is $25 per person.

Our guest speaker will be Dr. Lee Harmon.

Dr. Harmon is a member of the Rotary Club of Arlington, a retired opthalmologist and an oustanding Rotary volunteer. He has been raising money across North America for End Polio Now with driving challenges in his 1931 Model A Ford Victoria, which he calls "Miss Vicky". Edmonton West Rotarian Jackie Hobal has persuaded him to come to Edmonton to issue his latest challenge to Rotary Edmonton West.

Rotary has been fighting to eradicate polio for over 45 years through the PolioPlus campaign. From 350,000 polio cases in 125 nations in 1984, we're down to just 36 wild polio cases in 2026 and just two remaining countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Sadly, if we stop the effort now, the virus will return as if we had done nothing. The world must be certified polio-free for three consecutive years before the World Health Organization (WHO) will certify we have succeeded.

Jackie Hobal is herself a polio survivor. As the Zone End Polio Now Coordinator, she will provide a brief update on the PolioPlus campaign (including the situation in Afghanistan) and introduce our special guest – Dr. Lee Harman, a polio champion.

Please come early so you can see Miss Vicky - she will be parked outside the Chateau Louis Conference Centre.

2026-10-24 09:00:00Z Oct. 24, 2026 Rucksack March for Remembrance Oct. 24, 2026 9:00 a.m. Rundle Family Center

Event reminder:

Each year, our club proudly donates $3,000 to Wounded Warriors Canada in support of its Warrior Kids Camp program.

Warrior Kids Camp provides a safe, supportive, and fun environment for children whose families have been affected by the operational stress injuries of a parent who serves or has served in the Canadian Armed Forces, as a Veteran, or as a First Responder. Through outdoor activities, team-building experiences, and age-appropriate mental health programming, children develop resilience, build confidence, and connect with others who understand their unique experiences.

Our annual contribution helps ensure that these children can attend camp, create lasting friendships, and gain the skills and support they need to thrive.

Rucksack March for Remembrance

Every day, dedicated soldiers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and their loved ones carry the weight of trauma and sacrifice. Too many lives are lost to operational stress injuries, illness, and suicide. This event exists to stand beside those who continue to fight these battles long after their service ends.

Led by Veterans, Active Duty military members, and First Responders, the Rucksack March for Remembrance creates a strong and supportive community built on connection, resilience, and remembrance. Together, we march to honour service, support healing, and remind those struggling that they are never alone.

Date: October 24, 2026
Location: Rundle Family Center 2903 113 Ave NW, Edmonton
Registration: 9:00AM

๐ŸŽ„ It’s become a wonderful Rotary tradition! ๐ŸŽ„

For many years, our club has supported the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign, and once again we have the opportunity to spread some Christmas cheer while helping a great cause.

This year, we will be covering all the kettle shifts at the West End Costco. ๐Ÿ””

The funds raised through the Christmas Kettle Campaign help the Salvation Army support individuals and families in our community who are struggling, providing assistance such as food, clothing, emergency shelter, housing support, and help with basic needs throughout the year. Every donation, large or small, helps make a difference.

๐ŸŽ… When: Saturday, December 12, 2026
๐Ÿ“ Where: West End Costco, 7259 Winterburn Road
โฐ Shift times:  10:30 to 12:30; 12:30 to 2:30; 2:30 to 4:30; 4:30 to 6:45 - Just let me know which shift you would like.

So, put on your Santa hat ๐ŸŽ…, bring your Christmas spirit, and come ring the bells ๐Ÿ””, greet shoppers, and collect donations for this important community cause.

It’s always a fun way to spend time with fellow Rotarians—and a great opportunity to share a little kindness and Christmas cheer! โค๏ธ

Please let me know if you can volunteer for a shift. The more Rotarians we have, the merrier!

Let’s make this another successful year for the Salvation Army and help bring a little extra warmth and hope to our community this Christmas. ๐ŸŽ„โค๏ธ

Thank you everyone!

5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Edmonton Food Bank

It’s that time of year again! ๐ŸŽ„โค๏ธ

We’re excited to invite you to join us for our annual Christmas volunteer evening at the Edmonton Food Bank.

The holiday season is a particularly busy time for the Food Bank, with increased demand from individuals and families in our community. Your time and energy can make a real difference as we work together to help ensure that food reaches those who need it most.

Beyond the work itself, these evenings are a wonderful opportunity to come together, build partnerships, and strengthen our connections within the community. There’s something special about rolling up our sleeves, working side-by-side, and knowing that our collective effort is helping others during the holiday season.

As has become our tradition over the past few years, we’ll once again be joined by staff from the MacEwan University Health Centre. It’s a great opportunity to connect outside of our usual workplaces and continue building this wonderful partnership.
